What makes a skin valuable

Rarity is just the starting point. Four factors determine a skin's market value:

1. Rarity tier

Covert and Contraband skins are inherently scarce. Fewer copies exist, so prices stay high.

2. Wear condition

Every skin has a float value from 0.00 (Factory New) to 1.00 (Battle-Scarred). Lower float = cleaner look = higher price.

ConditionFloat Range
Factory New0.00 – 0.07
Minimal Wear0.07 – 0.15
Field-Tested0.15 – 0.38
Well-Worn0.38 – 0.45
Battle-Scarred0.45 – 1.00

3. Pattern and finish

Some skins have unique patterns (Case Hardened, Doppler, Fade) that create rare variants. A "blue gem" Case Hardened AK-47 can be worth thousands more than a standard one.

4. Stickers and Souvenir status

Sticker-crafted skins and Souvenir drops from Major tournaments carry premiums. Katowice 2014 stickers are the holy grail.

Top skins by rarity

Based on our database of the top 200 skins sorted by rarity:

Covert (Red)

  • AK-47 | Fire Serpent — The most iconic AK skin. Green serpent wraps the entire rifle.
  • AWP | Dragon Lore — The grail. A dragon etched in gold. Souvenir versions sell for five figures.
  • M4A4 | Howl — Contraband-tier rarity after being pulled from cases. The wolf design is legendary.
  • Karambit | Doppler — The most popular knife finish. Galaxy patterns command premiums.

Classified (Pink)

  • AK-47 | Vulcan — Clean blue and white geometric design.
  • AWP | Asiimov — Orange and white sci-fi aesthetic.
  • USP-S | Kill Confirmed — Skull-themed pistol skin with high demand.

Restricted (Purple)

  • AK-47 | Redline — The budget AK skin that looks premium.
  • AWP | Hyper Beast — Colorful monster artwork.
  • Glock-18 | Fade — Gradient purple-to-pink. Clean and popular.

CS2 Agents

Beyond weapon skins, CS2 has 63 playable Agent characters. Each has a unique model, voice lines, and rarity tier. Browse them all on our CS2 Skins & Agents page.

Agents don't affect gameplay — they're purely cosmetic. But rare agents from discontinued collections (like the Broken Fang agents) carry significant market value.

How to get skins

  1. Case drops — Buy keys ($2.49) and open cases. Odds of Covert: ~0.26%.
  2. Weekly drops — Play competitive/premier for a free weekly case.
  3. Trade-ups — Combine 10 lower-tier skins for one higher-tier skin.
  4. Steam Market — Buy directly from other players.
  5. Third-party markets — Often cheaper than Steam, but verify seller reputation.
