Destiny 2 The Final Shape Act 2 — new raid, exotic mission, and the resolution of the saga
Destiny 2 The Final Shape Act 2 ships the new Pantheon raid, a new exotic mission, and the resolution of the Light and Darkness saga. Here's what to play first.

The Final Shape Act 2 lands
Bungie shipped Destiny 2 The Final Shape Act 2 this week, and it's the penultimate content drop in the Light and Darkness saga. The new act ships the Pantheon raid, a new exotic mission, and the resolution of the storyline that's been building since The Witch Queen.
Pantheon raid
The Pantheon is the new raid, and it's a 6-player encounter designed for the most experienced players. The raid is unique in Destiny 2 history:
- Replayable boss fights — the raid features 5 boss fights, each a callback to a previous Destiny raid. The bosses are scaled up to contest mode difficulty.
- Rotating modifier system — every 24 hours, a new modifier is active. The modifier changes the encounter mechanics in meaningful ways.
- No checkpoints — the raid is a single run. If your team wipes, you start over.
The Pantheon is the most challenging content Bungie has shipped. The rotating modifier system means the optimal strategy changes every day, which keeps the content fresh for the players who want to grind it.
The first clear is gated behind the World First race, which begins on Friday. The race is a community event, and the team that clears the raid first earns the World First belt and the in-game emblem.
Exotic mission: Vespers Host
Vespers Host is the new exotic mission, a 3-player activity that drops a new exotic weapon and a new exotic armor piece. The mission:
- 3-player matchmade activity — the mission auto-fills if you queue solo.
- ~30 minute runtime — the mission is shorter than the previous exotic missions.
- Two new exotics — a Solar hand cannon (Hollow Denial) and a Void hunter helmet (Stoicism). The hand cannon is the standout, with a unique perk that refunds ammo on every Solar kill.
The hand cannon, Hollow Denial, is the most anticipated reward. The exotic perk is powerful in both PvE and PvP, and the gun looks distinct from the other Solar hand cannons in the game.
The Final Shape resolution
The Final Shape Act 2 closes out the Light and Darkness saga. The storyline has been building since 2022's The Witch Queen, and Act 2 is the setup for the finale in Act 3 (slated for late 2026).
Spoiler-light summary: The Traveler is in stasis. The Witness is at full power. The Guardian team is split across multiple timelines. The new "Echo" subclass (Solar) is the key to the resolution.
The Act 2 campaign is shorter than the original Final Shape campaign, but the resolution cutscenes are the longest in Destiny 2 history. The community reaction has been mixed, with some players praising the closure and others feeling that the pacing was rushed.
What to play first
- PvE players: The Pantheon raid is the standout content. Schedule a 6-player team for the World First race.
- PvP players: The new exotic hand cannon is the top pick. The exotic perk is strong in Crucible and Trials of Osiris.
- Lore fans: The Act 2 campaign is essential viewing. The cutscenes answer long-standing questions from the saga.
- New players: The Final Shape is a good entry point if you can get past the 200+ hour prerequisite grind.
