League of Legends 2026 preseason: all the changes coming to Summoner's Rift

The biggest preseason in a decade

Riot Games has unveiled the 2026 preseason update for League of Legends, and it is the most ambitious set of changes since Summoner's Rift was visually reworked. The patch touches every role, every objective, and several core systems that have been unchanged since Season 4.

New objective: Aspect of the Herald

A new neutral objective spawns on Summoner's Rift starting at 14 minutes. The Aspect of the Herald, a corrupted version of the Rift Herald, spawns in Baron pit when the original Herald has been taken or expires. Killing the Aspect grants the entire team a permanent buff: a one-time teleport channel that any ally can use from anywhere on the map. The teleport has a 4-second channel and leaves a visible indicator for the enemy team.

This objective is designed to create mid-game macro pressure without the binary win condition of Baron Nashor. Teams that secure the Aspect gain enormous rotation power but telegraph their intentions. The teleport can be interrupted by damage.

Teleport rework

Speaking of teleport: the summoner spell is being reworked. Teleport now has a 3-second channel (down from 4), but the cooldown starts after the channel completes rather than on cast. Self-cancelling teleport to fake a rotation is no longer free. The change is aimed at reducing teleport's dominance in professional play while keeping it viable for solo queue.

Jungle rework

The 2026 jungle update focuses on early-game agency:

  • First clear is faster by 8-10 seconds across all champions
  • Jungle monsters now grant adaptive force bonuses based on the killer's primary damage type
  • Scuttle Crab spawns at 3:00 on both sides simultaneously (no more coin flip)
  • A new "Hunter's Mark" system reduces damage from monsters by 15% when you have a jungle item, making invades less punishing

Riot's design goal is to make jungle more accessible to new players while preserving the skill expression that defines high-ELO play.

Support item overhaul

Support items are being streamlined. Spellthief's Edge, Relic Shield, and Shoulderguards now share a common upgrade path. All three generate gold through a unified "Duty" system that rewards proximity to allied champions during objectives. The changes reduce the punishment for mis-picking your support item in champion select.

Champion balance

The preseason patch includes changes to 165 champions — the largest balance pass in the game's history. Highlights include:

  • Lee Sin: Passive reworked to scale with ability haste
  • Ahri: Charm missile speed increased, ultimate cooldown reduced
  • Yasuo: Wind Wall now has 3 charges at max rank (individual cooldowns)
  • Jinx: Passive reworked — no longer resets on takedowns, instead ramps movement speed over 8 seconds
  • Zed: Ultimate shadow now mirrors your next ability cast automatically

Ranked changes

The 2026 season introduces a two-split ranked calendar:

  • Split 1: January - May (Spring split)
  • Split 2: June - November (Summer split)

Each split has independent placement and rewards. A new "Champion Pool" system tracks your performance on your three most-played champions and adjusts LP gains based on breadth of play — the system rewards one-tricks less than flexible players.

The preseason patch hits PBE on July 20, with a live release expected in early August.
