Apex Legends Season 24 mid-season update adds a new skirmisher — here's what we know

Apex S24 mid-season update

Respawn dropped the S24 mid-season update trailer this week. The update lands next week and ships:

• New skirmisher legend — codename "Vanguard"
• World's Edge rework — Lava City is overhauled
• Ranked reset — Soft reset, all ranks drop 1 tier
• New reward — Top 750 Pred players get a unique gun charm

Vanguard: the new skirmisher

Vanguard is a Brazilian skirmisher with a mobility-focused kit. Confirmed abilities:

• Passive — Trail Blazer — Sprinting leaves a 4s speed-boost trail for allies
• Tactical — Grapple Snare — Short-range grapple that pulls the target 4m toward Vanguard
• Ultimate — Speed Zone — Creates a 12m zone where all allies move 25% faster for 8s

Vanguard is a strong support pick for coordinated squads. The Speed Zone ultimate combos with Wraith, Pathfinder, or Octane for hyper-aggressive push plays.

World's Edge rework

Lava City is the most-reworked POI. Changes:

• Lava flow is reduced by 30%, making the POI more accessible
• New high-ground added to the south
• New underground tunnels connect Lava City to Countdown

The rework is a buff to mid-range combat. Lava City was previously dominated by long-range poke due to the lava flow; with less lava, the POI plays more like a typical CQC area.

Ranked changes

• Soft reset — All ranks drop 1 tier. Diamond becomes Platinum, etc.
• Matchmaking — Pred matchmaking now considers skill rating more heavily. The change is designed to reduce stomps in high-rank lobbies.
• Rewards — Top 750 Pred players get a unique Vanguard gun charm at season end.

Release date

The mid-season update lands August 6, 2026. Respawn will host a dev stream on August 4 with the full patch notes.

The S24 mid-season update is the last major content drop before S25, which lands in mid-September with a new map rotation.
