Fortnite Chapter 6: everything new in the biggest update yet
Epic drops Chapter 6 with a permanent roguelike mode, a complete map overhaul, and a battle pass spanning 200 tiers of content.

Chapter 6 is here
Fortnite Chapter 6 has launched, and it is the most substantial content drop in the game's history. A full map rotation, a permanent roguelike mode, mechanical overhauls to core systems, and a battle pass that spans 200 tiers. Here is everything that changed.
The new island
Chapter 6's map rotates to a fractured archipelago setting — seven distinct islands connected by ziplines, wind tunnels, and boat routes. Each island has a unique biome and POI:
- Neon Arcade — a cyberpunk district with hacking terminals that turn enemy turrets friendly
- Crystal Peaks — a mountain range with zero-gravity zones and hidden cave networks
- The Scrapyard — a post-industrial wasteland where vehicles can be upgraded with scrap pickups
- Sunken City — a partially flooded urban area with underwater loot caches
- The Spire — a central floating island that serves as the end-game focus point
- Biolume — an alien forest with hostile flora that drops unique crafting materials
- The Drift — a desert highway biome with vehicle races and chase mechanics
"Endless" roguelike mode
The headline feature is Endless, a permanent PvE roguelike mode. Players choose a class (Assault, Builder, Medic, Scout, Engineer), drop into a procedurally generated dungeon beneath the Chapter 6 map, and fight through escalating waves of enemy creatures.
Each run has upgrades, boss fights, and a final encounter against a "Spire Guardian." Successful runs reward exclusive cosmetics, V-Bucks, and materials that carry over to Battle Royale. Early runs are manageable solo; higher difficulties strongly reward four-player squads.
Endless is free-to-play, with no pay-to-win mechanics. Epic has confirmed a roadmap of bi-monthly content updates with new biomes, enemy types, and boss encounters.
Battle pass
Chapter 6's battle pass is the largest ever at 200 tiers. 100 free tiers include the standard mix of emotes, wraps, and loading screens. The premium track (950 V-Bucks) adds 100 additional tiers with three original skins, two collaboration skins, and the first-ever reactive glider that evolves based on cumulative eliminations across your account.
Mechanical changes
- Mantling rework: You can now mantle onto any surface within reach, not just ledges. Wall-running is enabled on specific map geometry
- Shield changes: Shield potions now stack to three in a single inventory slot. Big Shield potions are removed entirely
- New item: Phase Cloak — a consumable that renders you invisible for 8 seconds but reduces movement speed by 20%
- Vehicle overhaul: Cars now have fuel-limited boost, handbrake drifting, and destructible tyres
- Storm rework: The storm now deals increasing damage over time within the same circle, rather than per-circle scaling. Late-game storms become lethal faster
Performance
Chapter 6 includes Epic's new Unreal Engine 5.5 upgrade for Fortnite. The result is a significant performance improvement on all platforms — Epic claims 30% higher frame rates on last-gen consoles and 20% on PC. The Switch and mobile versions use a scaled-back renderer that targets 30 FPS with dynamic resolution.
The verdict
Chapter 6 is Fortnite at its most ambitious. The roguelike mode gives solo players a reason to log in beyond the battle pass grind. The map is the most creative since Chapter 2. This is the first update in years that feels like a genuine leap forward rather than a content refresh.
