Overwatch 2 Season 18 overhauls the Stadium mode, introduces hero bans to ranked, and adds a new Healer meta. Full patch notes for the most ambitious gameplay change since the Stadium mode launch.

Highlights
- **D.Va** — her new mobility buffs make her a ban priority at high rank.
- **Stadium fans:** the new mode is the standout change. Jump in.
Other
- Season 18 overhauls the Stadium mode, introduces hero bans to ranked, and adds a new Healer meta. The patch is the most significant gameplay change since the Stadium mode launched in 2024.
- Stadium gets a complete rework this season.
- Items are now persistent across matches. You keep your loadout between games, but items are level-gated to your current account level:
- **Level 1-10:** Common items only
- **Level 11-20:** Uncommon items
- **Level 21-30:** Rare items
- **Level 31-40:** Epic items
- **Level 41-50:** Legendary items
- The persistent items make Stadium feel more like a progression mode than a one-off match.
- Items are now unique per hero. No more sharing items across heroes. Each hero has its own item pool:
- **Tank:** Vanguard's Bulwark, Reinhardt's Hammer, D.Va's Boosters
- **Damage:** Soldier's Rifle, Genji's Shuriken, Tracer's Pulse Pistols
- **Support:** Ana's Biotic Rifle, Kiriko's Healing Ofuda, Mercy's Caduceus Staff
- The unique items make each hero feel distinct in Stadium.
- Stadium is now a 3-round format. First to 2 wins. Matches are ~12 minutes (down from ~20). The shorter format rewards consistency over single-match luck.
- Ranked gets a new feature: hero bans. Each team can ban one hero from the enemy team before the match starts.
- 1. **Each team nominates 3 heroes to ban** at the start of the match.
- 2. **The system randomly selects 1 ban per team** from the nominations.
- 3. **The match proceeds with the standard hero select**, minus the banned heroes.
- The bans are independent — your team's ban doesn't affect the other team's bans. This means a single match can have up to 2 heroes banned.
- **Ana** — the anti-heal from her biotic grenade is too strong in the current meta.
- **Tracer** — the pulse bomb damage buff makes her too dangerous to leave unbanned.
- If you main a high-ban-rate hero, expect longer queue times this season.
- The healer meta gets a meaningful shakeup:
- **Mercy** — damage boost increased by 8%, healing decreased by 5%. Push toward damage-boost playstyle.
- **Kiriko** — Protection Suzu cooldown increased by 2 seconds. Still strong, but less spammable.
- **Ana** — biotic grenade duration increased by 1 second. More oppressive in team fights.
- **Moira** — healing increased by 15%. Buffed back to relevance.
- The meta is pushing toward a more aggressive healer playstyle. Pure healbot Mercy is no longer optimal.
- The seasonal reset puts every player at the start of a new climb:
- **Bronze to Silver:** minor MMR adjustment
- **Gold to Diamond:** moderate MMR adjustment
- **Diamond+:** major MMR adjustment
- **Master+:** full reset to Diamond V
- For competitive players, the smart play is to grind the placement games in the first week. The lobby quality is most volatile in week 1.
- **Competitive players:** the hero bans change how every match plays. Get your placements in early.
- **Casual players:** the Stadium persistent items are the best progression change. The game now has something to grind for outside of ranked.
